UltraVPS.eu is one of the best providers for cheap VPS hosting for Linux. I've been using them for more than half a year now and I highly recommend their services. Their virtual servers have great performance and are very reliable at a low price and their support is also fast. What more could you want from a hosting provider?

They also have many more plans available, but these are the cheapest available for people who are just starting off and need something cheap. I personally use the KVM-50 plan in the server location Düsseldorf, Germany, as it has 2 CPU cores and I also need more hard drive space and bandwidth. They also have plans with SSDs instead of HDDs, if you require better disk performance.

Server Locations

They have the following server locations available for you:

Hard Drive Performance

As stated earlier, I use the KVM-50 plan which has a standard HDD instead of a SSD. What's the HDD performance like, you ask?

Here you go:

[root@Szibele:~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=file.img bs=1M count=2000
2000+0 records in
2000+0 records out
2097152000 bytes (2.1 GB, 2.0 GiB) copied, 15.5877 s, 135 MB/s

Network Performance

After running speedtest a few times, the best I got was the following for the location Düsseldorf, Germany:

# ./speedtest.py
Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
Testing from Providerdienste (130.255.78.218)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by IT Ohlendorf (Salzgitter) [111.93 km]: 1.417 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 496.99 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed......................................................................................................
Upload: 635.29 Mbit/s

Do note that this is never reflective of the real network performance, as it may be faster or slower depending on a lot of variables.

BK Manager v2

They also have their own VPS managing software, where you can log in and configure your VPS and even a web console in case your VPS is no longer reachable. They also have a rescue system and you can easily reinstall your VPS from a list of popular distributions. If your Linux distribution of choice is not in the list, then send the support an e-mail and they will add the distribution to the list of available distributions.
